While still in high school, Al started working for a major newspaper, The St Petersburg Times (FL). He continued to work for them as he attended college, as well as freelancing for United Press International, covering major news stories in Florida throughout the 60's. In 1969 after a year as the Governor of Florida's personal photographer, he quit to start a career as a freelance magazine photographer with Camera Five, an agency in NYC. Over the next 10 years he worked on assignment for almost every major magazine (such as Car & Driver, Fortune, Geo, Life, Look, Money, Newsweek, People, Playboy, Saturday Evening Post, Sports Illustrated, Time, Travel & Leisure).
During the 70's he moved to Los Angeles to continue his editorial work. After living in California for 6 years he moved to NYC to concentrate on the advertising field. For the next 15 years he did a wide range of national and international advertising work, becoming known for his saturated color images and keen sense of design and composition ......... from action and aerial work, to miniatures in the studio, to major production campaigns in foreign locations. Some of his clients include American Express, Coca Cola, Dole, DuPont, Eastman Kodak, Johnson Outboards, Kent Int'l, Molson, Nikon, Oldsmobile, Polaroid, R J Reynolds, Saab, Sony, Tuborg, Universal Studios & Westinghouse - to name a few. He has won many national and international awards. Al is considered an authority on color and design, and has four (4) published books of his work on this subject.
In 1991 Al moved his headquarters from NYC to a sprawling 36 acre farm in Concord, Virginia. In the past several years Al has leveraged his skills in still photography to his new passion, feature films and tv spots. To pursue this new line of work, he now spends most of his time in Venice, CA, where he can work on feature projects and commercial work to further his career. His goals remain committed to high end tv spots and story-driven feature films. His first feature short, "GEORGIA", just played in a Hollywood theatre.
